What is the mental game?

For many years I played sports and something that was shared by all the coaches I had through the years was that if your mind and heart win in the game then you were going to lose. I find this to be very true because you can tell when someone does not want play anymore and when they have mentally given up. It is more and more evident the more that a person plays when they really do not want to continue. I think this applies to the mental game that students have to have because if you don’t care about school then you will mentally give up. In academics it is especially important not to mentally give up because when you do your grades can fall. In result to that you might lose scholarships or be put on academic probation, or even worse be kicked out of school. So the mental games in the game and in the class room are equally important. But for a student there are many different factors than just being in the class room. You have to keep yourself motivated to do everything like homework, studying, and even simple things like eating or keeping your personal hygiene up. Another thing that you have to help yourself with is keeping good confidence in yourself and in your work. There have been times that I did not have confidence in what I was doing and those were the times that I would get mental blocks. I think the reason you get mental blocks when you have low confidence is because you are not sure of yourself and what you are doing so regardless if it is right or wrong you tell yourself that it is wrong. The last and most important thing we have to think about in our mental game here at school is commitment. If you have no commitment then you have no drive, no motivation, and no ambition. A way that helps me stay committed to my studies and everything that I do is to find A reason that I am doing a certain thing. Another way is to set a goal for myself and strive to achieve that goal. I realize these two things might not work for everyone but you can always work on ways that you find help you in your commitment not just to school but to everything.

Transition form high school to college #1

When I think about my transition from high school to college, it doesn't scare me, it amazes me. The fact that I was able to make it through twelve years of school is an amazing accomlishment. Now here i am in college with only four years left of school until the real adult part of my life starts. it is crazy to think that four years is all the time I will spend here. I mean in these next four years the amount of memories I will have is crazy. and how the knowledge that I will learn in four years controls the jobs in which I can recieve, if you ask me I think these are the most important four years of the rest of my life. As far as the transition from high school to now, it really isn't hard for me it's actually fun! for those who do not know, I had been home schooled my entire life until my first day of college. some might say or think this as a bad thing. then of course you always have those people that think all kids that were home schooled have to be completely anti-social. well I hate to break it to you but you would be wrong. I am very social person and in fact I have friends that go to public school and I have a bigger circle of close friends then they do. And to be honest if it wasn't for being home schooled and having the experiences the experiences of teaching myself my last two years of school I don't think I would be coping with school now as good as I am. another thing about my transition from high school to know that I have noticed is that people here are far more accepting than kids in high school. you really don't have to be a part of a clique or a certain group of people when you're here. I think it's awesome because you can learn from people that have a different view point than you. One other thing is the fact that I actually have people teaching me now, i will admit teaching myself was a challenge but I managed to overcome. however having the proffesor in class and whenever you need them is a great help. I for one do not want to go back to how it use to be and I deeply appreciate the life I have here at college.
